Introducing PDF Fusion™
Without question, PDF is the world-wide standard for sharing files. Thanks to the availability of lightweight readers for almost any of today’s devices, you can ensure that text, graphics, and images appear as you expect and can be easily shared with just about anyone ... anywhere. With this level of popularity, a powerful PDF tool is essential in any office, large or small.
Corel’s PDF Fusion is that tool. PDF Fusion in the all-in-one PDF solution that lets you to view files and assemble, edit and produce PDFs. With PDF Fusion, you’ll be able to open and work with over 100 formats without the expense and hassle of buying and installing the software used to create the file. Not only can you work with all of the current file formats, such as the Microsoft Office 2007 and open source formats, you can guarantee access to legacy files that were created in what are now obsolete applications.
Viewing Files with PDF Fusion
When you start PDF Fusion, the opening screen shows you the three views that you can use to work with files: Page View, Flick View and Assembly View. The button on the right side of the PDF Fusion screen reduces this window down to a LaunchPad (see Figure 1).

The Welcome screen gives you three viewing options for working with files in PDF Fusion.
Simply drag and drop files from multiple sources to easily assemble them into one a new PDF document that you can distribute. Multiple files can be dropped onto one of the three viewing buttons (see Figure 2) to open them in that view.

Page View shows you a page by page representation of the file (see Figure 3). There are three buttons in the upper left corner that switch you to Assembly View, Flick View, and the LaunchPad.
Figure 3
Page view is used most often to fine tune the PDF file before distribution.
Flick View is enormously popular – it lets you flip through the pages just like you would if you were reading a book (see Figure 4). A quick click and flick to the left or right moves a page at a time through a file. The faster you flick, the faster you move through the file. It’s incredibly simple and quite a lot of fun so maybe now, you won’t mind working with elephantine files as much.

Flick view really comes in handy when you have to move through a long, complex file.
Editing Files
It’s easy to make quick edits, thanks to a context-sensitive interface that displays the tools
relevant to the job at hand. When you select text, the edit icons appear (see Figure 5). These icons give you fast access to copy the text, insert a bookmark, redact the text, correct the text, insert a link, insert a comment, highlight the text, or apply strikeout or underline to it. Just hover over an icon to see the identifier.

The Editing toolset appears when text is selected so you have easy access to common commands.
Using the editing tools in PDF Fusion, you can perform the following tasks, quickly and easily:
• Simplify the collaboration process with annotation tools that let you highlight text, apply strikeout and underline, mark text for redaction, or add a sticky note comment (see Figure 6).
Figure 6
The Sticky Note tool lets you insert a sticky note with comments and suggestions.
• Create hyperlinks to other sections of the document, or to web pages.
• Add bookmarks to make it easier to navigate through long PDFs and to draw attention to critical content. Bookmarks can be directed to a section of text, an image or an object in the file.
• With the Free Text tool, seamlessly add a block of text, anywhere in your document. Intuitive formatting controls help ensure that anything you add looks identical to the existing text.
• Secure your files with password protection and restrict printing, copying and editing.
• Add watermarks to a file – select font, position, color, size, opacity, and angle.
• Rotate and crop pages with a simple click and drag. Rearrange the order of the pages with an easy drag-and-drop.
Assembling PDFs
Rather than starting each new PDF from scratch, it’s standard practice to build new PDFs from existing content. Repurposing content increases efficiency, ensures a consistent message and creates a predictable flow and appearance. PDF Fusion is a drag-and-drop PDF assembler that lets you open files in over 100 different formats, and then use those files to assemble new, unique PDFs.
With multiple files open in the PDF Fusion window, you can extract a page from a document, data from a spreadsheet, a slide from a presentation, an image – files from a variety of different formats – to create a single, concise document tailored to your audience. PDF Fusion’s drag and drop interface makes it easy to build a new PDF file from pieces of existing files (see Figure 7).

A simple click and drag is all it takes to create a new PDF from existing files.
Creating PDFs
PDF Fusion lets you reuse content from many different file types. Once you’ve assembled the file, you can then share your work in the format that works best for your audience. When PDF isn’t the format you need for a given situation, you can also save your work in another industry-standard format, such as DOC, XPS or PNG. When you convert a PDF, all text formatting, layout and graphics are preserved so you won’t lose anything in the process.
Saving to a different format in PDF Fusion is as simple as selecting it that format from a list. For those times when you need to convert a batch of documents, you can use Corel’s PDF Converter.
You can start the batch converter from the Start menu, or from PDF Fusion (click Document > Batch Convertion) to start the PDF Converter (see Figure 8).
Figure 8
Corel has included a handy batch conversion utility with PDF Fusion.
You can run through the process manually by clicking the Open button, then selecting the files that you want to convert. Or, if you are already in a file management dialog box, simply select the files that you want to convert, then drag and drop them onto the PDF Converter window to start the process. As you can see in Figure 8, a progress bar shows you the status of the conversion process.
The PDF Converter window can be expanded to show the information sections for the convert format and the details of the conversion (see Figure 9).

Select a different format in the Convert Format section, then check the Details section to verify the completion of each file’s conversion.
Tip: To keep things secure, PDF files from Corel PDF Fusion can also support high security and data encryption levels, giving you control over who can open and modify your documents.
PDF Fusion lets you print to PDF from any other program on your system that can print. For example, you may need to create a PDF from an email in Outlook, Gmail, etc.
Even more impressive, a PDF Fusion tab appears on the ribbon of any Microsoft Word, Excel, or PowerPoint, so you can turn any DOC, XLS or PPT file into a PDF with just a few clicks (see Figure 10).
